Topic: Minnesota Opioid Settlement

Deputy Attorney General James W. Canaday will discuss the nationwide Opioid Settlement as it pertains to Minnesota.  He will address key concepts of the settlement and explain what cities and counties should expect in the next few months and years

Minnesota is part of a broad multistate coalition that reached nationwide settlements with the three largest opioid distributors – AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, and McKesson – and opioid manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. The settlements resolve investigations and lawsuits against these companies for their role in the opioid crisis. As part of the legal settlement, the distributors will pay up to $21 billion over 18 years and Johnson & Johnson will pay up to $5 billion over 10 years.  Minnesota is eligible to receive more than $295 million over 18 years.  Payments will begin to flow to the state, cities, and counties as soon as April 2022.

Deputy Attorney General Canady will talk about the Minnesota framework for these funds, spending guidelines, and reporting requirements.
