Topic: Use of Evidence in the State Budget Process
Speaker: Britta Reitan, State Budget Director, Minnesota Management & Budget
In the presentation, Britta will share how the State of Minnesota facilitated a budget process that identified evidence based services for inclusion in the biennial budget. This process highlighted evidence based requests for decision makers and helped Minnesota enact over $80 million in new or expanded investments in evidence based programs.
Britta is currently an Assistant Commissioner at Minnesota Management and Budget and State Budget Director. Britta started with Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) in 2006 as an Executive Budget Officer working in the E-12 education budget. She stepped into a leadership role in the budget division in 2010, supervising a team of budget officers that cover pensions, taxes, public safety, education and judiciary budgets. She holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota, Humphrey School of Public Policy; and a Bachelors in Political Science from St. Olaf College.
