Topic:    Changing Demographics

 

What are the trends and changes in the State’s demographics?  How could they impact your City’s economy, workforce, education and population changes?  Please join your colleagues and Ms. Susan Brower as she will illustrate important data that is used to assist policymakers, state and local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and the media.

Speaker Bio:  State Demographer Susan Brower

Susan Brower became the State Demographer in February 2012.  In that capacity, she travels the state talking with Minnesotans about the new social and economic realities that are brought about by recent demographic shifts.  Susan’s work applies an understanding of demographic trends to changes in a range of areas including the state’s economy and workforce, education, health, immigration and rural population changes.

 

She joined the State Demographic Center after working as a researcher on the Minnesota Compass project at Wilder Research in St. Paul. Prior to that, she worked at the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan.  Ms. Brower earned her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Michigan, specializing in demography and family sociology. She also holds a master's degree in public policy from Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

After lunch please join Peggy Ingison, Minnesota Historical Society’s CFO, as she outlines key financial elements of the Minnesota History Center and it’s exhibits.  Following her comments, feel free to visit exhibits inside the History Center for a more intimate experience.

Ms. Ingison has been CFO since 2011 and has vast experience in finance, Minnesota and state operations.  She served the State of Minnesota as commissioner of finance from 2004 to 2006 and was the state’s assistant commissioner and budget director from 1996 to 2004. Prior to her 10 years of leadership with the State Department of Finance or now known as the Minnesota Management and Budget, she worked for the Minnesota State Finance Committee and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
