Public finance for the Millennial Generation . . . by an old finance guy.  Following his forty year career in state and local government, John Gunyou is now teaching financial management at the U of MN for our next generation of public leaders. Always an entertaining speaker, John will share his unique “flipped classroom,” which is arming future public agency managers with practical, real-world fiscal management skills, like preparing actual budgets, reading financial statements, analyzing public investments, fiscal forecasting, and even understanding the mystical world of government accounting – all at a fraction of the price. Once a budget guy, always a budget guy!

After retiring as Minnetonka’s city manager, John Gunyou was elected Three Rivers Park Board Chair, and teaches at the U of MN. He was previously Minnesota’s finance commissioner in the Carlson administration, and was the first finance director for the City of Minneapolis. He was also a partner with the largest economic consulting firm in the Rocky Mountains, ran Minnesota’s original and largest internet company, and was an executive at Minnesota Public Radio. John has degrees in finance and economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy, UCLA and University of Colorado. He has received numerous national and regional awards, and has authored more than 100 articles and books.
